Invisalign® in Valparaiso and Chesterton, IN
There’s something sort of cute about a kid who smiles with a mouthful of metal braces. On an adult, however… not so cute. If you missed the opportunity to have braces as a kid, but would still like to have a smile with straight teeth, then traditional braces are not your only option. At Smiles by Arnold, we offer Invisalign.
FDA approved Invisalign is the practically invisible way to straighten your teeth without wearing conventional metal braces. Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable custom-made aligners to move your teeth. Each aligner fits snuggly over your teeth, placing pressure exactly where needed to gradually move each tooth into proper alignment. Because you remove your aligners before you eat and drink, there are no food restrictions or problems with flossing or brushing. This technology is also more comfortable, avoiding the mouth abrasions that can be caused by the metal and wires of conventional braces. And this technology is also more convenient, since you are likely to spend less time in the doctor’s office getting adjustments.
Invisalign and You
When you come to Smiles by Arnold for your first consultation about Invisalign, one of our dentist’s will first make sure that your teeth and gums are healthy. If there is a concern, we’ll want to address that before beginning Invisalign treatment. Then, you and your Invisalign dentist will discuss your smile goals. We’ll take x-rays, photographs and impressions of your teeth that the Invisalign lab will use to create a 3-D image of your teeth. Your dentist, in turn, will use this image to develop a treatment plan. With this plan, you’ll know the estimated length of treatment time. And using the same technology your doctor will be able to show you a virtual representation of how your teeth will move with each stage of treatment. You’ll have the reassurance of knowing what your smiles will eventually look like before you begin treatment.
Invisalign uses this same 3-D computer imaging technology to design the complete treatment plan, from the initial teeth positioning to the desired final positioning. Custom-made aligners are created on the basis of this imaging information. Each of these aligners moves teeth incrementally and is worn for about 2 weeks. Typically, you will visit your dentist once every six weeks for “progress reports.” Although you can remove your aligners for a meal or when you need to brush and floss, you’ll still need to wear them for most of the hours in a day, every day.
Although not every situation can be treated with Invisalign, most people do qualify for this orthodontic treatment system. Call the office to get an evaluation to see if you can be helped with this new technology. With Invisalign, the dentists at Smiles by Arnold can align your teeth and give you the straight and beautiful smile you’ve wanted since you were a child.
