Dr. Arnold attended the annual international meeting of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry in New Orleans in May. He participated in many courses on the best new advances in cosmetic dentistry. This has helped him to once again raise the level of care he provides for his patients.

Dr. Arnold was one of five dentists internationally to be recognized with the “Partners in Peace Award” for his contribution to the Give Back a Smile Program. The AACD has over 4000 members and about 100 of them participated in the program last year, donating over one million dollars worth of fee dental work to victims of domestic abuse.

Drs. Shideler, Wargo and the rest of the team donated almost $8000 worth of free dental work to children in need. The team felt privileged to do something that made a huge difference for these kids. Smiles By Arnold and Associates intends to participate in this event for our area’s kids every February.

On Saturday May 2nd. Kinlynn set up a booth for the Women's Health Fair in Valparaiso. She enjoyed passing out information to anyone who had questions about dentistry. The attendance was excellent and she represented the team very well.

Tammy, Judy and Angie attended an advanced software training course in Naperville on May 2nd and 3rd. They learned a lot of great ways to improve our front office efficiency and customer service.

Judy and her husband are building a new house in Michigan City. She and her husband enjoy building and designing homes. They hope to move into their new house this September.

Becky moved to the Chesterton area where she is sharing an apartment with her cousin, and she is happy to have a shorter commute to work.

They were representing her aunt who had breast cancer and intend to make this an annual event. They really enjoyed being able to give back to such a strong foundation.

Dr. Arnold is a volunteer dentist for the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry’s Give Back a Smile Program. In the fall of ’07, he and the team helped a victim of domestic abuse to regain her smile. They helped eradicate her gum disease and rebuilt her entire mouth with exquisite porcelain restorations. This full-mouth rehabilitation was donated to Carmen, but it did more than change her life – it made the entire team feel great about making a difference for someone who needed some help.

As part of Children’s Dental Health Month, the Smiles By Arnold & Associates team participated in the Indiana “Give Kids a Smile” Program. The team provided thorough cleanings and excellent restorative care to many needy children from our community. The team feels great about having donated almost $8000 in free dental care

Dr. Lisa Shideler participated in a dental continuing education course in Utah recently. This series of lectures included new information on techniques, dental materials, and technology. We all feel that it is important to remain “up-to-date” and all the wonderful advances in dentistry today.

Tammy, Angie, and Laura recently attended an excellent conference to improve the efficiency, service, communication, and flow of our front office. They all agree that what they learned will help them to provide outstanding customer service for our patients. They are looking forward to attending a similar conference in 2008.

Three of our hygienists, Lisa Ann, Kinlynn, and Kim attended a fantastic conference on new dental hygiene products and technology recently. They spent three days in Washington DC updating their knowledge on a vast array of dental hygiene topics. This new information will enable them to continue to improve our services to patients.

Dr. Arnold has received advanced training in no-preparation and minimal preparation veneer techniques. He is one of the few dentists in the Midwest to be certified to place DURAthin Veneers. Dr. Arnold and his team are excited to share this wonderful, conservative approach to smile enhancement with our family of dental patients.

On October 26, 2006, Matthew James Arnold was born at Porter Hospital in Valparaiso. He weighed six pounds, six ounces. His three older siblings are thrilled with his arrival!

She is volunteering her dental services at a clinic in Tanzania. She feels fortunate to have an opportunity to make a difference in this poverty stricken area. Additionally, she is spending some time with a young boy whose education she has sponsored for the past year.

Lois went white water rafting
and climbed the Smokey Mountains
on an action-packed vacation this
fall. Additionally, she spent a few
days on Marco Island in Florida.
Unfortunately, she was there just in
time for the hurricanes!

Lisa Ann recently traveled to
Louisiana with her church to help
the victims of hurricane Katrina. It
was a very diffi cult situation, but
she was rewarded for her efforts
by seeing what a tremendous
difference she was able to make in
the lives of these people. She and
the church have an additional trip to
Mississippi planned, as well.

Dr. Lisa will reach the summit of Kilimanjaro Sunday, February 12 at 19,000
feet! After 7 days of climbing she will have a nice hot meal waiting for her.
She will then travel to several areas around the region to view the local
wildlife. Dr. Lisa will head back home on February 19. We can't wait to hear
about her adventure!

Dr. Natalie will be traveling to beautiful Orlando to run the Disney Marathon in January. After finishing her first marathon in Chicago this past fall, Dr. Natalie should finish this one with flying colors. Please wish her luck in this endeavor when you see her at the office!”

Dr. Arnold will be attending the Seattle Study Club Annual Symposium in Carlsbad, California in January. He is looking forward to mingling with colleagues from around the world for four days, exchanging information and learning from some of the best. He will try to “bring home” ideas which further revolutionize the care and service that we give.”

Our new foundation will benefit the children of our community. We will be launching the “SmilesByArnold Foundation” very soon. The goal of our foundation will be to improve the lives of kids in Northwest Indiana. A portion of all fees that we collect in 2006 will go to needy children or worthwhile organizations within the area that are advocates for the young people of our community. We are all very excited to have this opportunity to give back to the community.”
